Do you have a gorgeous new website, ready to give your viewers the BEST customer experience, but seem to be hearing crickets? It can be the worst feeling! I remember when I launched my first website – I had invested precious hours and hard-earned dollars to make that website a reality, and it felt like NO ONE was even seeing it! Sound familiar? Don’t worry! I want to share with you some simple, actionable steps you can take to help you start to increase website traffic.
Remember – this is a marathon, not a sprint. These tips are not meant to make you famous overnight. They will, however, start the ball rolling and help you generate consistent traffic over time!
If you want to meet more people, you start going to more places! It’s the same concept with the digital world.
Think about a party back in high school – if you wanted to throw the BIGGEST party of the year, would you only invite one group of people? No! You’d go invite the Theater Kids, the Brainiacs, the Jocks, the Artsy Kids, the Boujees, the Skaters, the Band Kids – all of them! Will they all come? Heck no! But you’ll get a lot more people than if you just invited one of those groups.
It’s similar in the digital world – to increase traffic, increase the number of places people can connect with you. Social media (Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, etc), paid advertising, live events, email marketing, guest posting on a blog and Facebook groups are all great places to start!
Make sure your website is Search Engine Optimized. This simply means that you’re making your website easy for search engines, like Google, to find you.
You can do this by leaving “clues” on your website, like keywords. For example, if you’re a Northern California Photographer that specializes in romantic photography, try including “romantic photography in Sacramento” or a similar phrase in your Home Page copy. The trick is to make the phrase seem natural in your copy – not used too much, and not forced. It’s a little bit of a puzzle but it’s worth the time to increase your website traffic!
Another tip is to link to internal (meaning, your website) and external (other websites) content. Google likes it when you create these chains and connections with other pages. Be sure to use reliable, trustworthy external links. This increases your website validity and will help improve your ranking.
Keep a quick load speed. When websites don’t load quickly, Google sees that as a sign of poor user experience, and therefore won’t rank your website as high. Conversely, when you have a quick load speed, Google will use that as a sign of quality user experience and will be more apt to rank your website higher. To increase website traffic, increase your load speed!
If you don’t have a blog, this is a great way to increase your website traffic. Blogs should be a library of valuable information for your ideal customer. If you’re not sure where to start, think of questions that your customers often ask. What questions can you answer through a blog post? Or think of information that would be valuable to them. For example, if you make natural soap, you could create a post on “Why Shea Butter is Best Moisturizer for Your Skin” or “Why Chemical-Free ‘Clean’ Soap is So Important”.
You have valuable information and a different perspective than anyone else – use that! It may take practice, but creating valuable, shareable content will draw people to you and your brand, leading to an increase in website traffic and a higher search ranking. A blog also helps a LOT with SEO!
Remember, these tips aren’t an overnight solution. Increasing traffic is a long term game, but it’s worth it! As the saying goes, “The best time to plant a tree was 30 years ago. The second best time is today.” Start taking action today to grow your brand and generate future leads!
